It’s going to be intense.
Get it? I couldn’t help myself. I even just googled “camping puns” (and came up with this) to try and think of something funnier, but I had to stick with the intense/in tents joke. I’m hilarious, I know.
So. Camp NaNoWriMo. For some reason I’m getting an image of birds singing, people wearing hiking boots and bandanas, and fireside chats. Except… that’s not really what this is. Well, the NaNoWriMo people say it is, and I sort of wish it was, but it’s still a virtual thing.
Maybe someday we’ll all run off to writerland and make it happen. Then that begs other questions, like, would we survive? Seriously, it might make a good reality show… throw a bunch of writers into the woods and see what happens. Overactive imaginations + sketchy uncivilized conditions… you’re welcome Discovery Channel.
ANYWAY.
I’ve decided to take a leap of faith and join Camp NaNo. What is it?
It’s kind of like a light version of NaNoWriMo. Instead of going for the generic November 50,000 words, you can set your own goal. I’m using it to try and finish Equilibrium, since Ignition and Skyfall keep dancing around in my head, making it impossible to finish that. Started by NaNo, finished by NaNo? Sounds like a plan to me. My goal is currently 25,000 words for the month of April, but somehow I just feel like I’m cheating by not doing 50,000. Just writing under 900 words a day sounds like cheating.
That is, when you factor out that April is the month before my final exams start, which means I might not have as much time as I think I have. Sleep? What’s that? I need to feel accomplished about my writing again, which is something I haven’t felt in a long time.
Camp NaNo is also really cool because you get assigned to a cabin with other “campers” and you all support each other the entire way. You not only have your personal goal, but you have your cabin goal too, so you all help each other to meet it! It’s a really awesome idea, and you get to meet fellow writers!
This year, Camp NaNoWriMo is happening in April and July, so if you can’t do it this next month, shoot for July! Check out more info here: http://campnanowrimo.org/
If any of you are doing it or decide to do it in the next day or so, add me here! Happy writing!
